Specialist Wallpaper Hanging
Three decades of experience hanging everything from delicate designer papers to bold feature walls. We handle the work others won't touch.
Why Wallpaper Hanging is Our Specialty at Nolan
Wallpapering has always been our strongest speciality. Over three decades, we've hung thousands of rolls! We've kept up with every trend and the truth is, good wallpaper hanging is a dying art. It takes years to develop the feel for different papers, to know how much paste to use, how to handle a delicate roll or a heavy vinyl, how to get a perfect pattern match around a tricky corner. We've put in those years, and it shows in the finish.
We're comfortable with papers that make newer decorators nervous! Whether it's an expensive design, a wide-width mural, or a room full of awkward angles, we approach every job with the same care and attention.
What We Hang
From simple lining paper to the most challenging designer wallpapers, we have the experience to handle it all.
Designer & Luxury Papers
Cole & Son, Morris & Co, Designers Guild, Sanderson, Farrow & Ball. We regularly work with high-end papers where there's no room for error. These aren't cheap to replace, so we measure twice and cut once.
Feature Walls
A single statement wall can transform a room. We'll help you get the positioning right and ensure the pattern sits where it should. Perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, and hallways.
Full Room Papering
Whole rooms, including ceilings if needed. We work methodically around the room, planning the layout so pattern breaks fall in the least noticeable places.
Murals & Wide-Width Papers
Large-scale murals and wide-width papers need careful handling. We've hung everything from panoramic landscapes to abstract art pieces, ensuring seams are invisible and images align perfectly.
Metallic & Textured Papers
Foils, silks, grasscloths, and other specialty materials need specific techniques. We know how to handle them without marking or damaging the surface.
Period Properties
Older homes with their uneven walls, picture rails, and character features need a patient hand. We've worked in Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis, and everything in between.

How We Work
Every wallpaper job follows the same careful process, whether it's a single feature wall or a whole house.
Assessment & Quote
We visit your property to see the walls, discuss your chosen paper, and provide a detailed quote. No surprises later.
Preparation
Old paper removed, walls washed down, any cracks or holes filled and sanded. Lining paper if needed. This is where most decorators cut corners.
Sizing
Walls properly sized to ensure good adhesion and to make future removal easier. It's an extra step that makes a real difference.
Hanging
Paper hung with care, using the right paste for the material. Seams properly rolled, pattern matched, bubbles smoothed out.
Finishing
Clean up, edges trimmed neatly around sockets and switches, and a final inspection to make sure everything is perfect.
Wallpaper Hanging Questions
Can you hang designer or expensive wallpaper?
Absolutely. Designer papers are something we handle regularly. We've hung plenty of Cole & Son, Morris & Co, Designers Guild, and other high-end brands over the years. With expensive paper, there's no room for mistakes, and our experience means we get it right first time.
How long does it take to wallpaper a room?
A feature wall is usually done in a day. A full room typically takes 1-2 days depending on size, the complexity of the pattern, and how much prep work is needed. We'd rather take our time and do it properly than rush and leave you with a poor finish.
Do you remove old wallpaper?
Yes, removal and preparation is included. We steam off old paper, deal with any stubborn areas, and make sure the walls are in good condition before hanging anything new. Proper prep makes all the difference to the final result.
Can you hang wallpaper on uneven walls?
We work in a lot of older properties with walls that aren't perfectly flat. Lining paper helps, and we know the techniques to get a good result even on challenging surfaces. We'll always be honest about what's achievable.
Should I buy my own wallpaper?
Most customers prefer to choose and buy their own paper, which is fine with us. Just make sure you order enough, we can advise on quantities when we quote. We're also happy to pick up paper on your behalf if that's easier.
What areas do you cover?
We cover all of South Essex including Benfleet, Southend, Rayleigh, Basildon, Leigh-on-Sea, Canvey Island, Hadleigh, Wickford, Hockley, Rochford and surrounding areas. We're based in Benfleet so most jobs are within easy reach.
